The ultimate style choice for spring from Crockett & Jones
The Hammer Group est. 1986
This year, Hammargruppen celebrates 40 years of craftsmanship, expertise, and passion for quality. What started in 1986 as a family-run shoemaking business in Helsingborg has, over four decades, grown into a name associated with the world's leading manufacturers of exclusive shoes, slippers, and shoe care products. Since day one, our philosophy has been to offer products of such high quality that they are worth caring for, repairing, and wearing for many years to come.
We began our celebration with a visit to our suppliers, Crockett & Jones and Bowhill & Elliott, in England. In the video alongside, you can see glimpses from our days at Bowhill & Elliott in Norwich, where we collaborated on the details of our unique 40th Anniversary collection.
This collection will be launched in limited quantities in autumn 2026, both in-store and online. Stay updated via Instagram and here on our website in the coming months – we look forward to sharing our history, our ongoing celebration, and exclusive sneak peeks with you.

Durable and Classic Shoes - Style and Quality
Why choose quality shoes?
Classic men's shoes of lasting quality
At Hammargruppen, you will find classic men's shoes from Crockett & Jones, Ludwig Reiter, and Bowhill & Elliott. Our range is carefully selected with a focus on timeless design, high-quality materials, and solid European craftsmanship.
We believe in fewer but better purchases. Therefore, we work with brands that produce their shoes with care for materials, construction, and fit. The result is shoes that age beautifully, can be maintained, and often used for many years to come.
By investing in well-made shoes, you not only gain an elegant style but also products that are built to last and age with dignity over many years of use.
What is Goodyear welted?
Goodyear welting is one of the most well-known and durable methods for manufacturing quality shoes. The construction involves a leather strip (the welt) being sewn between the shoe's upper and insole. The outsole is then sewn to the welt, instead of directly to the shoe.
This offers several advantages:
-
Long lifespan – the sole can be replaced multiple times without affecting the shoe's upper.
-
Increased comfort – the shoe gradually molds to the foot and becomes more comfortable over time.
-
Good stability – the construction results in a robust and durable shoe that can withstand many years of use.
-
Better moisture protection – the double construction helps to keep moisture away from the foot.
Many of the world's leading shoe manufacturers, including Crockett & Jones and Ludwig Reiter, use Goodyear welting on their premium shoes due to its durability, repairability, and classic qualities.
In short, a Goodyear-welted shoe is an investment in quality – a shoe that, with proper care, can be used and refurbished for many years to come.
Manufactured in England & Austria
A Legacy of Quality and Durability
All our shoes are manufactured in England and Austria, where traditional shoemaking meets modern sustainability principles. By choosing high-quality materials and collaborating with skilled craftspeople, we can guarantee that every pair of shoes retains both its shape and function for many years to come. At Hammargruppen, we believe in long-term quality and therefore offer shoes that are as comfortable to wear as they are stylish to look at.
How do you care for leather shoes?
Well-made leather shoes can last for many years with proper care. Regular cleaning and maintenance preserve both the leather's appearance, comfort, and lifespan.
1. Use shoe trees after each wear
Shoe trees made of cedar wood help shoes maintain their shape, reduce creasing, and absorb moisture from the leather.
2. Brush off dirt and dust
After use, shoes should be brushed with a soft horsehair brush to remove dust, dirt, and road salt.
3. Clean as needed
For heavier dirt or salt stains, a gentle leather cleaner, such as Saphir Leather Cleaner or Renovateur Creme, is recommended to restore the leather's natural properties.
4. Apply shoe cream
Shoe cream from Saphir Medaille d'Or nourishes, restores color, and protects the leather from drying out. Choose a color that matches your shoes for the best results.
5. Polish for extra shine
Finish with wax polish if you desire a higher shine and an extra protective layer on the exposed parts of the shoe.
6. Let the shoes rest
Avoid wearing the same pair for several consecutive days. The leather benefits from resting and drying between uses.
Extra important during winter
Road salt is one of leather shoes' biggest enemies. Brush and clean your shoes regularly during the winter months and ensure the leather is moisturized more often than usual. Salt left on the shoes can dry out and permanently damage the leather.
With proper care, a pair of quality shoes from, for example, Crockett & Jones or Ludwig Reiter can develop a beautiful patina and last for many years, while comfort improves with each wear.
How long do a pair of quality shoes last?
The lifespan of a pair of quality shoes depends on how often they are used and how well they are maintained, but a well-made pair can often last 10–20 years or longer.
Shoes from manufacturers like Crockett & Jones and Ludwig Reiter are designed to be maintained and repaired over time. Thanks to constructions such as Goodyear welting, the sole can be replaced multiple times, significantly extending the shoe's lifespan.
To maximize their lifespan, it is recommended to:
- Use shoe trees after each wear.
- Alternate between several pairs of shoes instead of wearing the same pair every day.
- Regularly clean and moisturize the leather.
- Replace heels and soles before wear becomes too extensive.
- Protect the shoes from moisture and road salt.
Many of our customers use their quality shoes for over a decade, and it is not uncommon for well-maintained shoes to be passed down to the next generation. With proper care, quality shoes therefore become not only a stylish choice – but also a long-term investment.
