Try on shoes at home
THINK ABOUT THIS WHEN TRYING ON SHOES AT HOME
- It is best to do this on a carpet or soft surface to avoid marks and scratches on the leather soles. Rubber soles can be tested on hard floors.
- Do not go outdoors. Shoes and boots that have been used outdoors cannot be returned.
- For Oxfords, Derbys and monk shoes/boots: lace up the shoes completely to minimize creases on the instep (vamp).
- For loafers: use a shoe horn or the cardboard support that is in the shoe to get your foot in. This protects the toe cap from damage.
When trying on the shoes, try not to bend them all the way in. You can tell if the shoes are too big or too small without having to take more than a few steps. You should not be able to fit an index finger between the heel and the toe cap when your foot is in the shoe. The toes should not be at the very front. A little heel play is normal in new shoes. It will decrease as the shoes mold to your feet over time.
Shoes and boots that fit properly are comfortable from the first moment you try them on.
